Ocellaris Anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) カクレクマノミ – Common Clown Anemonefish – False Clown
The Ocellaris Anemonefish are very similar to the Amphiprion percula so I am not sure. The number of spines in the first dorsal fin is said to be the best distinction. They overlap at 10. I have changed this to A. Ocellaris mainly because I have found a few sources that state that the range of A. percula does not extend to Amami. A. percula is also not listed in either my Amami Islands Marine Life Guide or the Japanese Biological Information System for Marine Life. Amami 2023

Their home is small and so are they. They live in front of my house. Amami 2022

Sometimes the anemone closes making it hard for the Ocellaris Anemonefish to hide. Amami 2026

I visited the Ocellaris Anemonefish after a long time to see how they were doing. The host anemone is browner than before. I think that this is a good sign of health. I didn’t notice at the time but looking at the pictures there are fish eggs hatching below the Anemonefish. Amami 2024

Same Ocellaris Anemonefish different year. This is as close as I have got to seeing them hatch so far. Amami 2025
