There are two similar fish to the Yellowfin Surgeonfish above. Amami
First is the Ringtail Surgeonfish (Acanthurus blochii) which has brown pectoral fins and a yellow blotch behind the eye. To make it even more confusing the Yellowfin Surgeonfish is sometimes called a Ringtail Surgeonfish.
Second is the Whitespine Surgeonfish (Acanthurus dussumieri) which other than the white spine looks like the Yellowfin Surgeonfish with yellow by the eye, yellow pectoral fins, and a white ring around the tail.
