Mahimahi (Coryphaena hippurus) シイラ – Dolphinfish – Dorado – size 210cm
Mahimahi are a very colorful fish. They can change color very quickly silver, yellow, green and blue. The name Dolphinfish confuses a lot of people. They are a fish that often jumps out of the water like a Dolphin. Dolphins are air breathing mammals that swim in the ocean. Mahimahi swim in schools near the surface. They like to eat flyingfish and can be seen jumping fast chasing them. I have seen them jumping over a dive site and I have seen one swimming next to snorkelers, but I have not seen one yet while in the water. This one we caught. It is a female. The males are larger with a more squared off head. Kauai 2004
