Upside-down Jellyfish – サカサクラゲ

Upside-down Jellyfish (Cassiopea sp.) サカサクラゲ – size 30cm
This Upside-down Jellyfish is most likely Cassiopea andromeda or Cassiopea ornata. I don’t know how to tell the difference. They can get up to 30cm but this one was much smaller. They are called Upside-down Jellyfish because the rest on their bells with their tentacles on top. They are reported to have a strong sting. Amami 2026

Same Upside-down Jellyfish. It was on the bottom in about 3m of water. The tentacles were pulsating. Amami 2026
