Ezo Deer – エゾシカ

Ezo Deer (Cervus nippon yesoensis) エゾシカ – Yezo sika deer
The Ezo Deer are a subspecies of the Japanese deer that lives on Hokkaido. They are also known as the Yezo sika deer. Yezo refers to Hokkaiko it is usually written as Ezo now. Ezo is an old name for Hokkaido and the people who lived there before it became part of Japan. Sika deer is redundant. シ was once Romanized as si, now as shi so Shika Deer means Deer Deer.
