The Spotted Eagle Ray is usually found on or near areas of sand. They have a duckbill shaped mouth, and they use that to dig in the sand for food. I have never seen them resting on the bottom. I have seen them hovering over portions of the reef in groups with strong currents. That could be their way of resting. They also jump clear of the water at times. Kauai 2014

Two Spotted Eagle Rays in Port Allen. I think that it was matting time. There was a lot of chasing going on for a long time. Kauai 2007
