Scalloped Hammerhead Shark (Sphyrna lewini) アカシュモクザメ – Mano Kihikihi – size 430cm
Scalloped Hammerheads a known to use their wide head to sense prey on and in the bottom. They are also seen in open water swimming on the surface. I had the camera out for this one because there were False Killer Whales going by.
Scalloped Hammerheads are also known to have mass congregations at times. Kauai 2005

Baby Hammerhead in Port Allen. The Hammerheads are known to pup in Port Allen, Nawiliwili, and Kaneohe Bay. the fishermen will often catch the baby Hammerheads and leave them on the shore. I have seen this at Port Allen and Nawiliwili. The only place that I have identified a live Hammerhead in the water was in Hanauma Bay, where I saw three together. Kauai 2002

A close up of a dead baby Hammerhead in Port Allen. The live ones look better. I did see a baby Scalloped Hammerhead swimming along in the middle of a pod of Spinner Dolphins. Kauai 2002
