Ryukyu Wild Boar – リュウキュウイノシシ

Ryukyu Wild Boar (Sus scrofa riukiuanus) リュウキュウイノシシ – size 110cm 49kg
The Ryukyu Wild Boar are smaller than the wild boar in the main islands of Japan. They are mainly nocturnal but can be seen in the day too. They eat plants, roots, worms, small animals, and insects. This one was eating some weeds behind my house. They have only come into my garden a couple of times without leaving much damage. I do put up barriers where they enter my garden. Amami 2024

Hawaiian Wild Boar (Sus scrofa)
The Hawaiian Wild Boars were brought by the Polynesians. Later other pigs arrived ships from all over. They are a very mixed pig. They still look and act like wild pigs. Niihau 2006
