Rough-toothed Dolphin – シワハイルカ

Rough-toothed Dolphin (Steno bredanensis) シワハイルカ – size 2.8m
I have seen Rough-toothed Dolphins in deep water near Kauai. When they are underwater, they resemble the Bottlenose Dolphins. Their heads have a distinctive slope from the beak to the top of their heads. The problem is trying to get a good view of their heads. They are shy and do not often ride the bows of boats. They also don’t often jump clear of the water. They just take quick breathes and take off.
This Rough-toothed Dolphin did jump a few times and rode the bow of the boat for some time. Kauai 2010
