Rattlesnake

Mohave Rattlesnake (Crotalus scutulatus)
The Mohave and the Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnakes are similar enough that I put them together. I think that I have the IDs correct but I could be wrong. The Mohave Rattlesnake has clear diamonds with space between them increasing towards the tail. Arizona 2012

The Mohave Rattlesnake also has narrow black rings before the rattle. I have increased the brightness on the tail section to see the rings. Arizona 2012

The lines by the eye look more like the ones on other images of the Mohave Rattlesnake I can find. The coloration is more in line with the Mohave Rattlesnake. They are both found in the Kingman area. Arizona 2012

Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox)
The Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake has wider black rings by the tail. It also has a bit of a reddish tinge to its body. This snake was a roadkill in Kingman. Arizona 2012

Close up of the Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake’s tail. Arizona 2012
