Mejiro – メジロ

Mejiro (Zosterops japonicus) メジロ – Japanese White Eye
In Hawaii they are called Mejiro and were a common bird around where I lived. Now in Japan they are still around my house and still called Mejiro. The name is now written as メジロ though. They are small birds that live in the forest, garden and parks. Amami 2024

Mejiros are very common in Hawaii. Here one is in an Ohia tree. This was once the domain of the Hawaiian Honeycreepers. Kauai 2007

This Mejiro was nesting in a Lychee tree next to my house. The chicks are getting a very hot chili pepper. The peppers don’t bother the birds. I spent a lot of time in that tree for this picture. Kauai 2002
