Latent Slingjaw Wrasse (Epibulus brevis) – size 18cm – Dwarf Slingjaw Wrasse
The Latent Slingjaw Wrasse was split from the Slingjaw Wrasse in 2009. Prior to that they were cosidered as a variation of Epibulus insidiator. The Latent Slingjaw Wrasse is smaller and the males are pale grey with greenish heads. They can also be dark like the one above. They lake a black line through the eye. The males have yellow edges to the tail and yellow pectoral fins. The females often have yellow and black pectoral fins and black edges of the scales. Amami 2026

This female Slingjaw Wrasse could be an Epibulus brevis. It has the dark edges to the scales but it lacks any black on the pectoral fins. Not all of the Epibulus brevis have black on the pectoral fins though. I will keep looking for a better example of a female Epibulus brevis. Amami 2026
