Hawksbill Sea Turtle – タイマイ

Hawksbill Sea Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) タイマイ – size 100cm
Hawksbill Sea Turtles are found in tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. They are rare though. This is the first one that I had photographed. I was about down just over 10m taking a picture of a fish and it came by very close from behind me. I lost track of it before it got into any better light. Amami 2026

Hawksbill Sea Turtle swimming by some coral. They eat a wide variety of food with sponges being their primary food. I did not see this turtle eating. Amami 2026

The most distinguishing features of the Hawksbill Sea Turtle are the narrow head with a pointed beak. The scutes of the shell give it a sharp edge too. They crawl up beaches differently too. They use alternate flippers and adult Green Sea Turtles use their flippers together. Amami 2026
