Lidth’s Jay, (Garrulus lidthi), ルリカケス or Amami Jay
This Lidth’s Jay or Rurikakesu as we call them here was sitting on a powerline next to my house in the rain. Its head is a little fluffed up from shaking off the rain drops. They are an endemic bird to Amami and a bit of an island icon.
A Rurikakesu in the forest. They make a lot of noise and travel in groups that are separated but calling to each other.
The Rurikakesu are a little hard to catch out in the open. this one is calling to its friends.
This Rurikakesu was inspecting this dead tree in a forest park.
I am not sure what this Crow did, but this Rurikakesu was really mad.
